My beloved Willi like to ask me eating in block M, South Jakarta. He did not choose the Plaza , the Mall or expensive place for dinner, but choose the roadside. Willi loves gultik(Gule tikungan), he can spend 2 portion gultik each time we get there. The place is very simple, does not have a row table as the withdrawal restaurants - just a plastic benches provided by gultik seller- stands along the roadside.
As we seen at the gultik vendor appearance, very simple, just a load with the 2 boxes that contain one kendil for gule made from snippets of beef seasoned with coconut milk sauce, while the second box contains "tremos" containing the white rice.
Gultik vendors peddle gultik with the shoulder but now is different, they have set up manual trailer - 2 wheeels- for transport as goods pickup . Perhaps this is tailored to the circumstances of the city of Jakarta which is frequent traffic jams, so the seller is not become tired quickly.
Gultik serve in a small ceramic plate, a side with rice , prawn crackers and pour with fried union. You can add chilli and dark soy bean souce as you like. 1 portion of gultik's price is Rp 6,000,- it's not expensive ! so... if you eat for 2 persons : 2 gultik + 2 mineral water = it's only spend Rp.18.000 ,- Wow!!! it's worth 1 portion of gule when you eat at local restaurant, without drink. Ups..!
While you eat gultik, you can chatt with friends , sight seeing , or just enjoy the open air. Well.. if you want to try gultik, just ride your car or motorcycle in intersection of jl. Mahakam. It located next to Plaza Blok M, open from 4 pm untl 11 pm. You'll find not just one vendor of gultik but 5-6 vendors, choose as you like. Enjoy !!!
